Full Review of KDLINKS R100 DashCam
As the market for compact, single-lens dash cams becomes increasingly saturated, KDLINKS strays from the trend and attempts to provide a camera with a more feature-filled, dual-lens design with a multitude of interesting features. With a unique, premium build and a high quality IPS display, the R100 is a noteworthy competitor to today’s popular dash cams.
In the box you will find all the required connectivity cables, some literature, the camera itself and a 16GB micro SD card. While the included storage will suffice for shorter recordings, it is recommended that you get a bigger one as the Full HD video that the R100 records does eat up storage rather fast. Luckily the unit does support additional storage up to 128GB, which is more than enough for longer road trips. Note that just like most dash cams, a higher class micro SD card is always better as it will render recordings faster and prevent any data corruption.
Moving on to the unit itself, you will notice that it has a very unique design that looks nothing like most modern dash cams and more like a rear-view mirror. This is because the R100 is designed to replace exactly that and act as the new mirror for inside your car. On the front, you will find the IPS display and a few navigation buttons. The rest of the surface is covered in a mirrored glass panel that works just as well as any normal mirror should. Flip it over and you’ll find the rear camera and a pair of mounts to attach it, as well as a speaker. Ports and connectivity is all kept relatively clean and streamlined, resulting in an unobtrusive look that is consistent with any car interior. Overall, the R100’s design is extremely clever and remains stealthy while still providing great functionality.
The Grundfos R100 remote control is designed for wireless IR communica-tion with Grundfos products. The functions available depend on the product with which the R100 communicates. See installation and operating instructions for the product in question. Read these operating instructions before using the R100 remote control.
The front camera is dubbed by KDLINKS as a rather odd 1296p resolution. It looks great and provides perfect legibility day and night and features a 140 degree wide-angle lens. But the star of the show, is the Full HD 1080p rear camera, which also features a wide-angle lens and smooth 30 frames per second recordings. The six-glass lens provides perfect night-vision and will work great in any weather. It also features Wide Dynamic Range, which is similar to HDR and will essentially provide better quality video with higher color accuracy and less grain.
The built-in display is where the KDLINKS excels. It is conveniently located the left of the mirror and is bright with great viewing angles. With its 5 inch form factor and high resolution IPS panel, the display is somewhat comparable to that of a smartphone. This is substantiated by the interface, which is reminiscent of a smartphone home screen, with big, easily distinguishable icons for each setting and function. The display is also capable of streaming footage from both cameras at once, which goes to show just how much processing power the R100 has under the hood. No dash cam display comes closet this one in terms of quality, size and functionality.

The KDLINKS R100’s feature set doesn’t end there though. The AUTO OFF feature is one of the more unique additions and allows the R100 to automatically shut down when your car is turned off. This is useful if you have a car where you need to use the cigarette lighter port as the power source. As long as the R100 is plugged in, it is also capable of motion detection and will create a short recording each time it detects movement. The unit also has an emergency lock button and thanks the built-in G-Sensor, it does feature Accident Auto Detection, which can lock the current video file when activated.
While the R100 does employ a traditional lithium-ion battery, it is capable of lasting a good few hours thanks to the 800 mAh capacity. Any need to recharge can obviously be alleviated by simply connecting it to a power supply. The battery has been regulated and does have MSDS and PONY certification, so the chances of it burning out in extreme weather are highly unlikely.
KDLINKS also prides themselves upon the fact that they have a 24-hour support service and response team that can help you with any problems you face in the future. Most companies don’t provide similar services and given the complexity of modern dash cams, its great to know there’s someone available to help.
At the end of the day, the KDLINKS R100 provides a full set of features in a rather unique form-factor that will look like a factory install in any car. The included safety features will make driving and insurance claims a much less stressful experience and given the small price of the R100, it is definitely worth it for a dual dash cam setup.
